What is Lifestyle Medicine?

In the fall of 2017, I was part of the first group of docs in the country to pass the exam for board certification in Lifestyle Medicine.

This is exciting stuff...finally a governing body to help guide us in the evidence-based approach to helping patients prevent, treat, and even reverse diseases by changing lifestyle.

In medical school, we learn virtually nothing about how to counsel patients in an evidence-driven manner about healthy eating, incorporating more activity, managing stress, the importance of sleep, or the positive effects on maintaining healthy relationships in our lives.

But it turns out, these factors listed above have an enormous impact on our overall health, well-being, and risk for development of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, etc.

We are thrilled that we will be able to offer intensive lifestyle medicine counseling and group visits at Gentile Family DPC. It is a unique opportunity, and something that the majority of docs just don't have the time or experience to offer to patients.

Reach out if you have questions or are interested in learning more.

In the meantime, here is a link to the American College of Lifestyle Medicine

Love and light,
Nat
